MTN: Best Mobile Network In Nigeria, Best In South Africa
MyBroadband Insights has released its 2019 Mobile Network Quality Report for the second quarter of the year. The data shows that MTN has been crowned as the best mobile network in South Africa once again.
With the help of 11 004 unique Speed Test users, MyBroadband conducted more than 330 000 speed tests through their Android Speed Test App between 1 April and 30 June 2019.
The research shows that South Africa had an average mobile download speed of 25.67 Mbps, up from 24.20Mbps in the previous quarter.
That is not bad, considering that the most recent Open Signal State of Mobile Network Experience report showed that South Africa’s average download speed is 15 Mbps (Megabits per second.)
Vodacom was in second place with 29.76 Mbps, followed by Telkom with 23.07, and Rain with 17.91 Mbps. Cell C was last on the list, with only 17.32 Mbps.
The report also shows that there has been a significant increase in network performance from MTN, Vodacom and Telkom in 2019, thanks to the improved LTE coverage and HSPA availability in rural areas.
According to the report, Rain is the only operator that saw a dip in performance during the period from 1 April and 30 June 2019.

Why Today's Airtel Listing On Nigeria Stock Exchange Is Such A Big Deal
Airtel Africa Plc will today begin trading on its shares on the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE). Airtel Africa will list its entire paid-up share capital on the NSE under a dual listing arrangement that provides additional window after the telco’s primary listing on the London Stock Exchange (LSE).
The NSE yesterday confirmed that arrangements have been concluded for the admission of the shares of Airtel Africa to its official list today. The NSE has suspended the listing last Friday due to inability of Airtel Africa to meet some listing requirements in time for the listing. Airtel Africa subsequently confirmed at the weekend that it had complied with the outstanding listing requirements.
Many sources at the Exchange confirmed the listing arrangement. Airtel Africa has already credited allotted shares to the Central Securities Clearing System (CSCS) Plc’s accounts of subscribers to its initial public offering (IPO)., one of the outstanding issues that stalled the listing last weekend. The company is one of the most subscribed network providers in the country with different pocket friendly packages like Airtel Data Plan and others including , Airtel Data Plan 4g, airtel data plan unlimited, airtel night plan and so on.
Under the IPO, Airtel Africa allotted 39.23 million ordinary shares to qualified institutional investors and high net worth investors in Nigeria while 704.82 million shares were allotted to other global investors in various jurisdictions outside Nigeria. The shares will be listed at N363 per share. Airtel Africa will be listed on the main board of the Exchange with initial market capitalisation of N1.36 trillion.
Airtel Africa’s shares are expected to be activated on the live trading engine at the NSE in post-midday trading and investors may be able to trade for almost an hour on the shares of Africa’s second largest telco. The management of Airtel Africa will be honoured with a brief ceremony and the beating of the closing gong for the stock market by 2.30pm to commemorate the listing. Airtel has simple instruction on how to check airtel data balance
Airtel Africa’s Nigerian subsidiary, Airtel Networks Limited, second largest telecommunication company in Nigeria, accounts for more than one-thirds of the group’s turnover.
Chief Executive Officer, Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE), Mr Oscar Onyema, noted that Airtel Africa will be making history as the first telecom company to simultaneously list on both the LSE and NSE.
He said the listing on the Exchange reaffirms Airtel Africa’s long-term commitment to expanding opportunities for Nigerians in addition to providing everyday services to them.
“This listing serves to deepen the telecoms and technology sector for investors and provides an opportunity for a wider group of Nigerians to be part of the African telecoms growth story. This listing is a promising development in Africa with Airtel Africa being the second company to have its ordinary shares listed on both the London Stock Exchange and the Nigerian Stock Exchange,” Onyema said.
He pointed out that the dual listing gives credence to the successful partnership between the LSE and NSE urging similarly situated companies to explore the different opportunities for raising capital on the NSE’s platform.
“Airtel Africa’s listing on the NSE will not only showcase the company as an established player in the African telecommunication industry, but will enable the firm to actualize its strategic vision “To enrich the lives of customers”,” Onyema said.
He assured that the NSE will continue to support the telecom industry and the real sector by promoting efficient capital formation and allocation, enabling industries to raise long-term funds for growth and expansion of their business to reduce unemployment and sustain Nigeria’s economic growth and development.
Airtel Africa will be trailing its closest rival, MTN Nigeria Communications Plc, as the third largest quoted company. MTN Nigeria, the largest telco, was listed in May 2019 with a market capitalisation of N1.83 trillion, making it the second largest quoted company after Dangote Cement Plc.
The listing of MTN Nigeria had triggered a massive rally that market capitalisation of Nigerian equities to a gain of N2.726 trillion in May 2019, one of the two positive months for the Nigerian stock market so far this year.
Market analysts also expected a reasonable enthusiasm for Airtel Africa on debut at the NSE but the wider distribution of its shares due to the IPO may moderate the pricing trend compared with MTN Nigeria’s pricing upsurge.
MTN Nigeria had sustained a day-on-day maximum allowable gain for many days, setting off a major debate about the propriety of the pricing mechanism. However, the NSE affirmed that the pricing mechanism was in line with established market forces.
Airtel Africa’s debut trading on the LSE was however weak, dropping by as much as 16 per cent during the first trading session.

RCCG 2019 Convention: Adeboye Said To Proceed On Spiritual Preparation
Some celebrities and other Nigerians, on Monday, staged a protest at the Redemption Camp on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway to seek the intervention of the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, in the current state of insecurity in the country.
The protest, organised by the Creative Industry Group, was staged to appeal to Adeboye, who is one of the richest Nigerian Pastors, to exert his influence to speak on the security challenges plaguing the country.
The protesters, including Charles Oputa, popularly known as Charly Boy; Felix Duke; Friday Igwe, popularly known as Baba Fryo; Eedris Abdulkareem and Mykel Parish, alleged that Adeboye had been silent on the state of the nation.
The Chairman of the group, Duke, while lamenting the rate at which people were being killed and kidnapped in the country, urged the RCCG GO to speak up for the masses.
Duke stated, “A lot of people are dying; our women are being raped; men are being kidnapped and killed; children are being slaughtered and no one is talking about these. Any government that wants to change the orientation of the youth usually uses entertainment; so, we celebrities have decided to use our followership to influence people to speak up for the underprivileged.
“We believe that the RCCG is the biggest church in Nigeria and Adeboye has a lot of influence in the country; if he speaks up on the country’s security challenges, President Muhammadu Buhari will listen to him. The Vice-President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, is his ‘son’; he (Adeboye) also has a lot of ‘children’ in the National Assembly, so his voice is very important.
“The people whom we met at the Redemption Camp all understood that the fight is not about us, but it is for the betterment of all Nigerians and the unborn children. We want him (Adeboye) to speak up so that efforts can be made to put an end to the killings. Even if he just makes a statement, it is ok.”
Igwe urged Adeboye to exert his influence to intensify efforts to secure the release of Leah Sharibu, who has been in the captivity of the Boko Haram terrorists for so long.
He said, “Adeboye has a loud voice; when he speaks, the government listens; so we want him to at least talk to the Vice-President, Yemi Osinbanjo, on this Ruga settlement issue and the killings of innocent people by Fulani herdsmen. We have also been too relaxed on the release of Leah Sharibu; so, we want him (Adeboye) to talk about it. We are not protesting that he is a bad person; we just want people to hear his voice on these issues.
“When we got to the Redemption Camp, the security guards tried to stop us from coming in, but we found our way in and kept protesting till we got to a point where the police used an armoured personnel carrier to barricade us. We continued protesting on that spot until the National Overseer, RCCG, came to speak to us and gave us an assurance that our message would be delivered to Adeboye. But we told him that if we didn’t hear from him, we would come back again.”
When contacted, the Head of Media and Public Relations, RCCG, Olaitan Olubiyi, said the protesters’ complaints would be delivered to Adeboye, whom he said had embarked on spiritual preparation for the forthcoming convention of the church.
Olubiyi stated, “When the protesters came, we attended to them because Pastor Adeboye was not available. We are preparing for our convention and our General Overseer has already embarked on his own spiritual preparation for the convention. The National Overseer Pastor, Joshua Obayemi, spoke to them and assured them of Pastor Adeboye’s commitment to the progress and peace of Nigeria.
“It may not be true that he (Adeboye) has been silent; during the last Holy Ghost Service, there was a time devoted to talking about the evils and dangers of blood. shedding and bloodletting; Pastor Adeboye even led the whole congregation in prayer for mercy for Nigeria and that was aside the prayers that are always offered at the various parishes.
“Much more importantly, Pastor Adeboye made it clear at the Holy Ghost Service that happened some four days ago before today’s protest that as a middle member of the Christian Association of Nigeria and the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria, the leaders of these two associations had issued statements on these matters.
“As a leading member of these associations, how would it look if he should make another statement when the leadership had spoken? But in any case, we have told them that we would forward their complaints to the General Overseer and he would respond appropriately.”

RMD Prays for his son as he turns 18 today
Model and talented Nollywood actor Richard Mofe Damijo who is one of the richest actors in Nigeria is a proud dad today as his son Tega celebrates his 18th birthday today.
RMD as he is popularly called writes a letter to his son, giving him tips on how to go through life as he is becoming a man.
He wrote:
Dear Son,
Turning 18 is a big deal as it offers you the freedom and liberty to be your own man but you know you’re never really going to be ever free from me right? Oh, just ask your Uncles, big brothers and sister -lol.
I know how confusing the next few years will be for you as you straddle boyhood and manhood at the same time but I hope I have been a good enough father and steered you in the right direction.
I pray for you to be a good man, even when people are not watching, that is INTEGRITY.
I pray that you do deeds that will help others, even if no one knows you did them, that is KINDNESS.
I pray you are quick to share not only what you have, but what you know, that is GENEROSITY.
I pray that you treat everyone as equal, irrespective of their social status, that is RESPECT.
I pray that you remember that every woman is to be treated like they are precious, because they all are, that is BEING A MAN.
I pray that you never use your voice or physical strength to intimidate anyone (male/female), that is REAL STRENGTH.
I pray that you’re not afraid to speak the truth, even as a lone voice, that is CONFIDENCE.
I pray you spend only what you can afford, and not be pressured to live for the gram, that is WISDOM.
I pray that you do not glorify crime, drugs, alcohol abuse and other forms of debauchery just to appear cool and lit, that is UPRIGHTNESS.
More importantly, I pray you remember that you’re God’s son and live in ways to make Him proud.
Son, being 18 gives you the right to make choices but it does not absolve you of consequences so be careful the choices you make.
Here’s to an amazing life ahead of you 🥂 #RMDSaysSo #LetterToMySon #DearTeenageSon #TegaMofeDamijo

Rita Dominic Makes Case For Another Rape Victim
While the dust raised by the rape allegation levelled against the General Overseer of Commonwealth of Zion Assembly, COZA, Pastor Biodun Fatoyinbo by singer, Timi Dakolo’s wife, Busola Dakolo hasn’t settled yet, Nollywood actress, Rita Dominic is championing another rape case, involving a minor. The ugly incident happened in 2016.
According to a post on her Instagram page, Rita who is reportedly the richest actress in Nigeria is calling for the prosecution of a 28-year-old Idris Ebiloma, who she alleged to have raped one 4-year and three months old Miss Khloe on the 31st of August, 2016.
The alleged rapist reportedly was the cook in the victim’s home in Asokoro in Abuja before the incident happened. There was vaginal and anal penetration of that little girl. The victim’s mother was said to have reported the matter to the police and she was compelled to drop charges against the alleged rapist which she refused and insisted on getting justice for her daughter.
“Khloe’s mother has had a lot of challenges prosecuting the rapist from the police prosecutor, Mr John .I. who refused to tender all the evidence in court, the video of the little girl’s ordeal and other evidence.
The mother has been following up the matter and has been frustrated following how the Nigeria Police FCT Command has handled the matter. All thanks to the Current CP who cautioned the OC Legal to prosecute the matter without a biased mind a few weeks ago.”
“The Human Right Commission is aware of this case and has refused to step in even after the victim’s mother wrote a petition to the commission and was told by a staff of the commission never to come back again. This matter has lingered and the rapist feels he is above the law because he has the backing of influential Nigerians who have intimidated the victim’s mother.
On the 6/12/2016, she fought the police officers sent from IG monitoring Team (force Headquarters) who came to rescue the rapist in court all thanks to Hon. Justice A.O Otaluka who intervened and stood firm since the matter came before her court ( CHARGE NO: FCT/HC/CR/32/16).
This is one of the many rape cases in the FCT especially that of minors. All the mother of Khloe wants is justice for her daughter who deserves justice, an innocent girl who should be protected by her blood but was sent away because her mother stood on the path of truth,” reads the statement. The case comes up today, at Apo High Court, Abuja.
