MTN Nigeria is part of the MTN Group and one of Africa’s leading cellular telecommunication companies. MTN Group Limited, formerly M-Cell is a South Africa-based multinational mobile company which operates in many African, European and Asian countries. MTN became operational in Nigeria in the year 2001 and which happens to be the very first telecommunication company to start operation in Nigeria. The new management later worked on bringing down the burden of the liabilities which brought about the reduction of the fine to 3.2 billion dollars.

MTN Nigeria established a foundation called the MTN Foundation. The foundation is the corporate social responsibility vehicle of the communication company. According to the foundation, MTN currently has 341 project sites across the country. It was also reported that a South African Holding company, Shanduka Group acquired a minority stake in MTN Group’s Nigeria business for $335 million in 2012.
